What To Expect as a Driveaway Driver

Working with Classic Transport gives drivers the opportunity to see more of the country while enjoying the freedom to choose when to work. This fascinating career is full of new experiences and offers a chance to escape the routine while earning competitive wages. Here is what to expect as a Driveaway driver for Classic Transport.

Classic Transport’s Driveaway program offers driving services for the movement of Class C motorhomes and utility trucks for companies like Forest River, Stroehmann Bakeries, Midway Specialty Vehicles, UPS, FedEx, Frito-Lay, Sara Lee, and others.

Almost everything that drivers deliver will start in the Elkhart, Indiana area. However, Classic Transport also operates a seasonal yard in Ladson, South Carolina, for FedEx and Frito-Lay.

What Does a Classic Transport Driveaway Driver Do?

The function of a Driveaway driver for Classic Transport is to drive and deliver specific units to destinations in other parts of the United States and Canada. While most trips, such as with Class C motorhomes and utility trucks, will originate somewhere in north central Indiana, destinations can be anywhere in North America.

Classic Transport will pre-pay half of the total compensation at the beginning of the trip. The idea is to help drivers pay for fuel and other expenses during the trip. The remaining balance is paid after successful delivery.

Since the Driveaway Program is generally a one-way trip, drivers will need to arrange transportation back after delivery. One option is to tow a small car (under 3,500 lbs.) to the destination to drive back. However, many drivers take advantage of Classic Transport’s special arrangement with National Car Rental. This arrangement provides a vehicle with no mileage limitations at a per-day cost.

Where Will You Sleep on the Trip?

Drivers can never use the bathroom or kitchen in a camper as the unit is locked, so it arrives in pristine condition. This means sleeping in the camper is also not an option. On the journey, drivers can choose one of the many hotels where Classic Transport has a special rate. Or drivers can arrange their own accommodations to suit their preferences.
