Everything You Should Know About Towaway Driving

Classic Transport’s Towaway Driving Program offers an exciting opportunity to see more of the country while providing competitive wages. If qualified, an individual can set their schedule, choose their destinations, and work when they choose.

The Classis Transport Towaway Program is straightforward. Those interested must have a ¾ to 1-ton truck that is 10 years old or newer. They must also have the proper towing equipment to collect new campers or other equipment near Classic Transport’s South Elkhart, Indiana, location. To get paid they then tow them to various destinations in the United States and Canada.

Classic Transport allows drivers to select routes and destinations while providing drivers with all safety resources and support to foster a positive, long-term career.

Orientation Procedures

A two-day orientation is required for all new drivers joining Classic Transport. During this time, you will sign the necessary paperwork, undergo a drug screening and DOT physical, conduct a road test, and take a CSA and log training class. The only exception to this is that drivers with a CDL can skip the road test portion.

For orientation, you need to bring a valid driver’s license, provide a social security number, birth certificate or passport, and a DOT physical or medical card if you have them. You must also bring your truck in for a vehicle inspection. This enables you to begin immediately with your first towaway experience.

Drivers are able to take a passenger if they are at least 18 years of age. However, as the driver, you are 100% responsible for any injury that may result during the transport.

How does Compensation Work?

Drivers receive 50% of the agreed compensation prior to departure. This allows the driver to make the trip and deliver to the customer without using personal funds. Towaway driving compensation is competitive and includes a fuel surcharge.

What Equipment is Necessary?

Your truck must be fully registered to begin the process of towaway driving for Classic Transport. Temporary tags are not permitted.

Drivers should be equipped with a Class 4 or better receiver with sway bars and saddles or a fifth wheel rated for at least 15,000 lbs. The truck itself should be under ten years old. However, in some instances, older trucks have been approved after a photo review and an equipment inspection.

Mud flaps are another non-negotiable. These should leave no more than 3” to 4” of ground clearance once the vehicle is loaded.

To comply with all federal and state requirements, drivers must carry a working fire extinguisher, set of flares or triangles, breakaway 12-volt battery, lug wrench, jack, tire gauge, hand tools, and spare fuses.

Mirrors must be extendable to accommodate a 102-inch-wide trailer, and window tinting must allow at least 70% light. Furthermore, windows must be clear without any cracks.
