Interested in Multi-haul driving? Classic Transport is the ideal choice for drivers who wish to enjoy flexible scheduling with competitive compensation, multiple incentives, route choices, and more. With Classic Transport, drivers use their own truck and trailer to haul goods across the United States and Canada. Drivers enjoy the freedom to enjoy the destination and take jobs they prefer. Learn why long-haul drivers are taking advantage of these opportunities while earning a living.
What is Multi-Haul Driving?
Multi-haul driving is when drivers use larger trucks and trailers to transport two or more RVs to a destination. Classic Transport works with several major manufacturers to move their RVs across the U.S. and Canada.
Drivers who wish to participate in Classic Transport’s Multi-Haul Program must provide a 1-ton truck with all the necessary add-ons and accessories. Let’s take an in-depth look at some of the elements of this program.
Competitive Compensation
Compensation is competitive and changes depending on the job. While Classic Transport does not pay for fuel directly, the cost is calculated into compensation. Payment fluctuates depending on the origin and destination. To learn more, you can contact the recruiting department for the current rates.
While drivers pay for fuel, Classic Transport provides 50% of compensation up front to cover fuel and other out-of-pocket expenses. Drivers can choose to sleep in their trucks or book hotels using discounted rates along the way. The RVs remain locked throughout the journey to keep the interiors pristine for the end user.
At the end of the year, Classic Transport will issue a Form 1099 (T4 for Canada), and drivers will be expected to submit their taxes.
Questions About Your Equipment
Drivers provide the truck and must make sure they have all the necessary equipment. The 1-ton truck should be less than 10 years old. However, older, well-kept vehicles can be considered with detailed inspection and images. Drivers will also require a vertically adjustable Class 4 or better load-leveling hitch and receiver or a fifth wheel rated at least 15,000 lbs.
To comply with Federal and State regulations, drivers must have:
- A mounted fire extinguisher
- A full set of flares or triangles
- 12-volt breakaway battery
- A lug wrench and jack
- Tire gauge
- Hand tools and spare fuses
- Trailer brake control
- Extendable mirrors for 102” wide trailers
Windows should have no cracks and cannot be shaded to allow less than 70% light. Finally, mud flaps on the rear tires must have no more than 4” of ground clearance.
Do Drivers Need to Keep a Log Book?
Legally, authorities require a log book, so Classic Transport will supply an electronic logging device for use during each trip.
Setting Your Schedule
The freedom to choose which jobs and routes drivers take is one of the outstanding features of working with Classic Transport. With destinations throughout the U.S. and Canada, drivers can select those that work best for them. For teachers and other seasonal workers, they can choose routes during the summer and other times that align with their schedule.
Do Drivers Need to Be U.S. Citizens?
Those in Canada or the U.S. can apply to be a multi-haul driver for Classic Transport. Canadian citizens will be limited to Canadian routes unless they hold a U.S. Permanent Residence Card. However, U.S. citizens can choose to travel into Canada or only work U.S. based routes.
Signing Up and Orientation
Drivers can complete the simple Application Form on the Classic Transport website to apply. Make sure to include all the necessary information. Once drivers are approved, they are required to attend a two-day orientation session.
During the orientation, drivers must bring these documents with them:
- Driver’s license
- Social Security card or birth certificate
- Current truck registration
- Proof of insurance
- Title or bill of sale
- Current DOT inspection for the truck and trailer
Classic Transport will also inspect your vehicle to ensure you have all the proper equipment. Note that the orientation will include a drug screening and DOT physical, as well as a CSA and log training class.
